  • About Reykholt

Reykholt is a great place to explore the Icelandic countryside and enjoy the stunning views. The foundation of the village Reykholt was made in 1928 with the opening of the children’s school. This school was one of the first built in rural areas in Iceland. The population now is about 200. A geothermal area was discovered in Reykholt in the first part of the 20th century and soon thereafter the population started to form. The geyser at Reykholt, Reykholtshver, is an old geyser that erupts every 10 minutes and erupts about 14 l of 100 degrees hot water per second and that water is used to heat the houses and greenhouses in the area.
